In 2015 SIA ``EGG ENERGY`` invested more than 10 million Euros in the biogas and fertilizer production plants. In December 2015 the ``EGG ENERGY`` plant began operating and the production process is fully based on processing chicken manure.
The electric capacity of the biogas plant is 2 MW. The total amount of electricity generated by the plant is 16 000 000 kW. The cogeneration plant produces thermal energy which is equal to the amount of the generated electricity. The main raw material for the biogas production is chicken manure. 100% of the manure is provided by A/S ``Balticovo``, which is the largest producer of eggs and egg products in Northern Europe (www.balticovo.lv).
The residue material (fermented substrate) from the biogas plant is turned into a valuable fertilizer. Liquid ammonium sulphate concentrate: 6000 m3/year. Pelleted fertilizer from the solid fractions of the fermented material: 10000 t/year.
